Health: You should take health advice about your specific needs as early as possible and ensure that vaccinations or preventative measures such as malaria tablets are taken early enough, (which may be a month or more prior to departure) to be fully effective by the date of travel. At the time of writing the recommended vaccinations for travel to Kenya include Hepatitis A/Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio, Yellow Fever, Malaria and Tuberculosis (children only). ** For up-to-date information regarding current health precautions you should consult your own doctor or one of the specialist vaccination centres as soon as possible. Whilst on holiday we also advise taking precautions against mosquito bites and recommend the following measures are taken: - Insect repellants containing DEET should be used as these are proven to be the most effective in preventing mosquito bites.
- Many mosquitos are most active at dawn and dusk. Consider staying indoors dueing these times or use insect repellant and wear long sleeves and trousers.
- Mosquitos are able to bite through tight clothing so wearing loose fitting garments is recommended.
- Light coloured clothing can help you see mosquitoes landing on you.
- Ensure you keep windows and doors closed at night, to keep mosquitoes out. If provided we recommend you sleep under a mosquito net.
