Kenya Kitesurfing

Kenya Kitesurfing at the Nyali Beach, Mombasa

Kenya kitesurfing

Listed as one of the "top 3 kitesurfing destinations" if you are a kitesurfer looking to enjoy a great kitesurfing holiday then kitesurfing in Kenya should be right up there on your travel "wish-list".

If you explore our Kenya Holidays website you will see that as a holiday destination Kenya is a fabulous choice. As well as great hotels, wonderful powder-white beaches and friendly people you can also combine your beach holiday with a safari where you can see some of the most wonderful wildlife in the world.

But as a kitesurfer why not consider taking a safari with a weeks' kitesurfing at the Nyali Beach Hotel in Mombasa.

If you require tuition then the kitesurfing centre is set directly on Nyali beach backing onto the private and well maintained grounds of the Nyali Beach Hotel and its two swimming pools and garden bars.

Tuition starts at around £150 for a total of 6 hours and ranges from level 1 to level 3 tuition. We can obtain a price for you depending on your requirements.

What makes Nyali Beach such a great kitesurfing spot is that its' a good 1.5km long and is safe for both those learning kitesurfing basics as well as those of you who are experienced kitesurfers.

Nyali Beach is a protected reef area. The reef is 2km away so gives you a brilliant kitesurfing playground of flat to choppy freestyle conditions and for the experienced the reef kicks up some epic wave riding on anything from 8 to 25ft waves of glass. Truly for the strong rider.

Wind Conditions:

Kuzi winds are most reliable between December and April whilst Kaskazi winds from June to October are stronger.

The Kaskazi winds are from Dec to April. Wind speeds are 12 to 20 knots and more powerful than the speed indicates as are moist so on the rare occasion when the winds are 8 to 10 knots you can still kite with an 18 comfortably. Full quiver for these months, 10,14,18 are best.

The Kuzi winds are best from May to October and from the South so side shore from the right, stronger and more consistent. Wind strengths are consistently above 20 knots in the afternoons and it’s not unusual to be kiting 7 days out of 7 on anything between 8m and 12m kites. Learning conditions are perfect in the morning, the afternoon sessions are stronger with huge waves on the reef.
